Feature & Follow Friday #2 ~ Deciding What To Read

Welcome to Feature and Follow Friday, a weekly meme hosted by the wonderful bloggers, Parajunkee and Alison Can Read. The goal of this blog hop is to gain followers, discover new blogs, and make new friends! What makes this blog hop different than others (and the reason I wanted to link up) is that each week both hosts showcase a "Featured Blogger" ~ what a great way to get to know bloggers from different genres and areas!!
This week's featured bloggers are Nicola Reads YA; check out their blogs, see what they're all about, and then give them a follow!

Question of the Week:

How do you decide what books to read? ~ Suggested by So Many Books, So Little Time

Choosing which book to read is kinda a 2 step process for me.

Part one, a book must make it onto my TBR pile. A lot of things make me choose a book but I'll just name a few:

First, it's going to be a books synopsis; if a book has a good synopsis & it's in a genre that I'm currently reading then it's definitely getting added to my TBR pile!

Second, it's gonna be a book's cover; I LOVE covers so if I see one that's fabulous then I'm definitely going to pick it up & read that synopsis, if it sounds good - it's added!

Third, reviews and recommendations from my blogger friends, I've found some of the best books I've ever read this way! I will absolutely trust a blogger friend that's recommended to me before too, I won't even need to read the synopsis in this case (of course I do out of curiosity), if they say I need to read it, then dammit I'm gonna read it!!

Fourth, it's gonna be a book's author. I'm such a fan girl when it comes to my favorite authors and all of them are on my radar AT ALL TIMES!! So if one of my favs has a book coming out........I'll have had it on pre-order 6 months ago :)

Part two, I now have my TBR pile which usually consists of about 200 books. And I don't mean hypothetical "I want to read these" type books; these are how many ARC, digital, paperback, and hardbacks I actually have waiting to be read. Since I know that all the books on my TBR pile are books I've added for a reason then I try and make it easy on myself by basing my next choice on release dates or specific time commitments I've set up. I then usually try to filter in my non ARC books so that I'm reading a few a month, these I pick purely based on what sounds the best when I go back & look thru my titles :)

 Thanks all and Happy Friday!!!

    1. Thanks for stopping by & following! Yes, when receiving recommendations from friends you better hope you have the same book tastes ;) Book covers are my loves & guilty pleasure! I will purchase a hardback copy of a book I've read as a eARC just because of the cover, drives my hubby crazy Lol

I've followed you back on Bloglovin' :)

  3. Covers can be so misleading. I hate when a book doesn't match a pretty cover. :( New follower via GFC. http://angreads.blogspot.com

  6. I'm drawn in by the cover first and foremost, but it's got to have a good blurb for me to read it. I have a list of 100 or less books to read on my Kindle but my physical to read pile is really big. I tend to buy books whenever they're on sale, so I'm constantly piling up more and more books to read. :P

  7. Yes! For a book to make it to my TBR, it has to have a great synopsis and either be rated well on Goodreads, have an amazing cover, or have been recommended to me by a trusted friend or blogger. (:

    1. Seems the majority of us use the same 4-5 factors when choosing a book, great minds right LOL thanks for stopping by :)

  8. It's a very good system. And although I do look at Goodreads ratings (and sometimes reviews) in order to decide whether the book is going to my TBR pile, I tend to not read into reviews much especially if I like the cover or synopsis. I prefer to discover on my own.

    1. That's smart that u don't read too many reviews! I don't know how many times I've potentially ruined a book for myself by reading a review & then suddenly there's a spoiler, with no warning! Such a pet peeve of mine!! But your so right, when I read something straight away from Net Galley with no outside resources to look at besides the synopsis then its a much more enjoyable & organic reading experience :) thanks for following!!

  9. I'm definitely a mood reader so I just go with whatever I feel like reading at the moment. Goodreads and other blogger's review do come in handy though!

  10. 200 books!? Wow, I am almost certain your TBR stack far exceeds mine! I love your response to this week’s question, it’s so methodical and well-organized; you’ve even given me some pointers ;) New follower! <3

    1. OMGosh I know it's sooooo bad LOL for every review I post to NetGalley I end up requesting 5 more! Same goes for that darn 1 click feature on Amazon heehee :) I have such an addiction to books & I'm extremely OCD so it's kinda a scary combo!! Glad I was able to give you some pointers, I love when I can help out a fellow blogger. Especially one with such a cool name, nice to see someone else sporting the 90's love ;)

  11. The TBR pile always keeps growing, doesn't it? I have the same problem. I also choose first from synopsis.

  12. Yeah, I usually have that many to read too--at least 100, anyway. If we're talking about my "someday" TBR pile, it's more like 800 books! Thanks for stopping by my blog. Now following via GFC and G+. :D

  14. I usually choose my books the same way but in a slightly different order. Generally it's cover, then summary, and then what other bloggers thought. LOL! New follower!

  16. I LOVE your answer! I LOVE book covers, and there are times where I will add a book to my TBR simply because I am in love with the cover and synopsis sounds good too. :D
I also will automatically add books to my TBR based on Favorite Authors. I don't even need to read the synopsis, if I love the author the book gets automatically added. :D
Thanks for stopping by my blog and for following me!
